A thought occurred to me today.
My dad said that he thought the “graphic novel genre” was right for me.
Not that I blame him for calling graphic novels a genre—a lot of people do—but they’re a format. And therein lies the rub.
If you walk into a book store, you’ll find graphic novels (if they stock them) shelved together in their own nook, perhaps with all the monthly superhero titles. The rest of the store is organized by genre.
What if we stocked graphic novels by genre?
Alphabetized by author with all the other drama, history, sci-fi, and romance, graphic novels might actually get picked up and looked at more often.
Just a thought.
